Replace a missing tooth with a plan that considers the whole smile.

A dental bridge can replace one or more missing teeth. The appropriate design depends on the supporting teeth or implants, your bite, cleaning access and the condition of the surrounding tissues. Sungshim Dental offers restorative and implant consultations at its Kalihi, Honolulu office.

Understand what supports the bridge

Option to discussQuestions for the dentist
Tooth-supported bridgeWhich neighboring teeth provide support, and what preparation would they need?
Implant-supported restorationIs implant treatment appropriate, and what surgical and restorative stages are involved?
Removable optionHow would it fit, function and be cleaned compared with a fixed restoration?

These categories are discussion points rather than a recommendation. The examination and imaging, when indicated, determine which choices are reasonable.

Compare the impact on nearby teeth

A tooth-supported bridge uses adjacent teeth for support. An implant-supported option relies on implants and involves a different treatment process. Ask about tooth preparation, healing, expected longevity, repair, cleaning and the consequences of delaying replacement.

Our implant guide explains implant planning. If a supporting tooth needs extensive restoration, review the crown guide and ask how the proposed treatments relate.

Digital planning and the in-house lab

Sungshim Dental uses digital scanning and an in-house dental lab in its restorative workflow. Dentists and technicians can coordinate the planned shape, shade, fit and bite. Ask whether a digital scan is appropriate, which material is proposed and when the appearance and bite will be reviewed.

An in-house lab does not guarantee one-visit treatment. Timing depends on the supporting teeth or implants, the material and the individual plan.

Plan for cleaning and maintenance

A bridge requires daily cleaning around and beneath the replacement tooth as instructed by the dental team. Ask which tools fit the design and how the supporting teeth, gums or implants will be checked at future visits. Report looseness, discomfort, a changed bite or difficulty cleaning.

Visits, estimates and decisions

Ask for an estimate that identifies the examination, imaging, preparation or implant stages, temporary restoration if needed, final bridge and follow-up. Confirm how insurance benefits apply to the proposed design.

Bring records for an existing bridge that needs evaluation. The dentist must assess the supporting structures before discussing repair or replacement.

Questions patients ask

Can a bridge replace one missing tooth?

A bridge may replace one or more missing teeth, but the appropriate option depends on the supporting structures and examination.

Does an in-house lab mean my bridge is completed in one visit?

No. The number of visits and timing depend on the clinical situation, material and treatment plan.

How do I clean under a dental bridge?

Ask the dental team to demonstrate tools and a routine that fit your bridge design and oral health.

Bridge consultations with Dr. Park and Dr. Kim

Dr. Chan Hee Park and Dr. Jisu Kim provide restorative dental evaluations at Sungshim Dental. A bridge plan depends on the adjacent teeth, bite and overall oral health. Ask how the proposed bridge compares with other options for the missing tooth and how the in-house lab would coordinate the restoration if a bridge is selected.
