Sungshim Dental · Honolulu, Hawaii
Your health, your remaining teeth and your goals all belong in the plan.
An implant consultation is a chance to find out whether implants make sense for you—not a commitment to surgery. Sungshim Dental evaluates implant treatment in the context of your mouth and the restoration you need. An online checklist cannot determine eligibility.

What is considered in an implant evaluation?
| Factor | Why discuss it? |
|---|---|
| Gums and remaining teeth | Active disease and teeth that can be maintained may change the starting point. |
| Bone and anatomy | Available support and nearby structures influence implant positioning. |
| General health and medication | Healing and surgical planning depend on your individual history. |
| Smoking and home care | Discuss healing risks and whether the proposed teeth can be cleaned effectively. |
| Goals and follow-up | Comfort, appearance, budget and access to continuing care all matter. |
Bring the complete health picture
Tell your dentist about diabetes, smoking, medicines, previous cancer treatment, bone-related medications and prior healing problems. Do not stop or change prescribed medication on your own. Your dental team may need to coordinate with your medical clinician.
Some factors call for additional assessment or treatment before implant surgery. They should be discussed individually rather than treated as a simple online yes-or-no decision.
What if I have been told I do not have enough bone?
Ask what specifically limits the proposed treatment and whether further evaluation is useful. Our implant center discusses CBCT-based planning, bone grafting and sinus procedures. These may be relevant to some cases, but they do not make every patient a candidate.
Compare implants with other options
Depending on the missing teeth and surrounding structures, options may include preserving and restoring teeth, a bridge or a removable replacement. Ask how each option affects nearby teeth, daily cleaning, expected visits and future maintenance.
A useful consultation explains why a recommendation fits your situation and what tradeoffs remain.
Make your first visit productive
- Bring existing X-rays or implant records if you have them; ask the office how to share them.
- List your medicines, medical conditions and previous dental concerns.
- Explain what bothers you most: chewing, loose dentures, appearance or repeated repairs.
- Ask which decisions can be made now and which require further assessment.
At Sungshim Dental · Honolulu
Your implant consultation with Sungshim’s Honolulu team
Dr. Jisu Kim holds dental licenses in the United States and Korea and has experience with complex implant cases. At Sungshim Dental, this clinical background is supported by 3D CBCT, digital oral scanning and direct collaboration with our in-house lab. The purpose of a consultation is to connect these resources to your individual needs.
Bring your starting point
Share your current dental concerns, relevant records and what you want to change about chewing or appearance. If another dentist has recommended against implants, bring the findings so the reasons can be discussed.
Discuss the whole restoration
Digital planning can help relate the available anatomy to the proposed replacement teeth. Your dentist also considers which remaining teeth may be maintained and what other treatment options are appropriate.
Choose a workable plan
Discuss the proposed stages, language preferences and ability to return for follow-up. English and Korean consultations are available at our Palama Supermarket location in Kalihi.

Questions patients ask
Can I get implants if I have diabetes?
Diabetes is one part of the health assessment. Your dentist needs to consider control, healing risks and the rest of your medical history, sometimes with your medical clinician.
Is age alone the deciding factor?
No single age number establishes suitability. Jaw development, health, anatomy and the ability to maintain the restoration matter.
Does a consultation commit me to implants?
No. Use the visit to understand your options, including alternatives, before deciding on a plan.
