Understand the plan behind the name.

All-on-X describes a full-arch restoration supported by a planned number of implants. The “X” is not a promise of a particular number or a same-day result. Sungshim Dental’s implant center presents All-on-X planning and guided-surgery examples as part of its digital full-mouth workflow.

All-on-X, All-on-4 and full arch

TermWhat it tells you
Full archA complete upper or lower row of replacement teeth.
All-on-XAn arch supported by a selected number of implants; the number depends on the plan.
All-on-4A specific four-implant treatment concept, not a description of every full-arch case.
Full mouthTreatment that may involve both arches and a broader reconstruction plan.

Use these terms to start a discussion. They do not establish your diagnosis, implant count or suitability.

What determines the number and positions?

Ask how bone, anatomy, bite, restorative space and the proposed teeth influence the plan. More implants are not automatically a better plan, and a smaller number is not automatically appropriate. The recommendation needs to explain the complete restoration and its maintenance.

Where teeth remain, ask which can be maintained and why extraction is or is not proposed. Choosing a treatment label should not replace that discussion.

Connect the scan to the final teeth

Scan & assess

Evaluate the mouth and relevant imaging alongside your health history.

Design & discuss

Review tooth position, appearance, bite and cleaning access.

Plan & restore

Coordinate implant placement, temporary teeth and the final restoration.

Sungshim’s implant center shows CBCT, intraoral and facial scan integration, digital full-mouth planning and an in-house lab workflow. These tools support treatment planning and communication; they do not guarantee an outcome.

Temporary teeth are a separate decision

Ask whether immediate temporary teeth are appropriate and what conditions must be met. A temporary bridge and the final restoration may differ in materials, design and timing. If same-day temporary teeth are unsuitable, ask what alternative will be provided during healing.

Request a plan that distinguishes surgery day, healing checks and final restoration appointments.

Compare the full commitment

  • Which arch or arches are included?
  • Are extractions, grafting, temporary teeth and final teeth included in the estimate?
  • How will I clean beneath the restoration?
  • What follow-up and potential repairs should I plan for?
  • What are the alternatives if implants do not heal as expected?

Implant surgery and restorations can have complications, including infection, implant failure, bite problems or component issues. Discuss these risks and alternatives during your consultation.

At Sungshim Dental · Honolulu

Designing the arch, not just selecting an implant count

Sungshim Dental’s implant center brings digital full-mouth planning and an in-house prosthetic lab into the same care setting in Honolulu. For an All-on-X discussion, that means considering the planned arch, its supporting implants, the temporary restoration and the final teeth as connected parts of treatment.

Discuss the design

Bring your priorities for chewing, appearance and cleaning. Our digital design workflow can help the team discuss the form and position of the planned teeth in relation to the proposed implants.

Understand the lab’s role

Our on-site technician and five-axis milling equipment support prosthetic design and fabrication. The material, design and treatment schedule are chosen for the clinical situation.

Confirm the stages

Ask which teeth are temporary, when the final arch is planned and what maintenance involves. Immediate temporary teeth are considered individually and are not promised for every All-on-X case.

Questions patients ask

How many implants will I need?

That depends on the examination and restoration plan. An online guide cannot select the number or positions for you.

Does All-on-X mean permanent teeth in one day?

No. Immediate temporary teeth may be possible for some patients, but the final restoration and healing stages need to be explained separately.

Where can I compare fixed and removable full-arch options?

See our full-mouth and full-arch guide for a comparison, then ask which options fit your anatomy, care needs and goals.
