In-office and take-home whitening

OptionHow it fits your routineWhat to ask
In-office whiteningTreatment is carried out at the dental office. How many appointments are proposed, and what follow-up is needed?
Take-home whiteningYou use the prescribed system at home according to the dentist’s instructions. How should it be used, and when should results and sensitivity be reviewed?

Ask which option is suitable after examination. No particular brand, number of visits or shade change is promised here. The office can explain the specific system recommended for you.

What whitening can change

Whitening affects natural teeth; crowns, veneers and tooth-colored restorations do not whiten in the same way. Existing restorations may therefore look different from newly whitened teeth. Ask about shade coordination before starting, especially if you are also planning a front-tooth crown.

Discoloration has different causes and does not always respond equally. Have a dentist assess a single dark tooth or an unexpected color change rather than assuming it is an ordinary surface stain.

Sensitivity and gum comfort

Temporary tooth sensitivity and gum irritation can occur. Tell the team about sensitivity, gum concerns and previous whitening products before treatment. Follow the prescribed schedule and contact the office about unexpected or persistent symptoms.

Do not increase the amount or frequency to speed up the result. Ask your dentist what to do if you experience discomfort.

Questions before you begin

  • Which discoloration are we trying to change?
  • How could my existing fillings or crowns affect the result?
  • Which method fits my dental condition and schedule?
  • What is included in the estimate and follow-up?
  • When should the shade be reviewed before any new restoration is made?

If you are preparing for a wedding, photographs or travel, tell the office the date in advance. Allow time for assessment rather than assuming a guaranteed result immediately before the event.

Discuss maintaining the result

Ask how your habits and oral-care routine may affect appearance over time, and whether touch-up treatment is appropriate. The schedule should be individualized. Keep routine dental appointments and ask before combining different whitening products.

Questions patients ask

Do you offer both in-office and take-home whitening?

Yes. Sungshim Dental offers both. Your dentist can discuss which approach is appropriate for your teeth and goals.

Will whitening lighten my crowns or implant teeth?

Whitening does not change the shade of these restorations the way it changes natural teeth. Discuss matching the colors before treatment.

How much does whitening cost and how many visits are needed?

Contact the office for the proposed method, number of visits and estimate after assessment. This page does not promise a fixed price or a specific shade change.
